Intersection Collision Avoidance Added to Nissanā€™s Future Driver-Assistance Tech

Nissanā€™s Intersection Collision Avoidance

Nissan continues to enhance its safety technology and driver-assistance features for new Nissan models. Currently, the manufacturer has an LIDAR-based advanced driver-assistance system in development. When it is released, it will include intersection collision avoidance.

New Nissan Safety Technology

Nissan showcased the new feature at an event, which showed how it can help the vehicle perform specific maneuvers in an intersection. The technology is part of Nissanā€™s long-range plan, making LIDAR technology available by the mid-2020s. The development team is studying real-world accidents to enhance avoidance technology.

This new feature can detect the speed and location of another vehicle and analyze the potential for a crash coming from a lateral direction. The idea is for the system to respond instantly with automatic emergency braking or releasing the brakes after the risk has been avoided. This system can detect vehicles, pedestrians, and even obstacles that donā€™t move. Information collected in real-time allows the system to make decisions that are both immediate and accurate.

Intersections are complex and often require split-second decisions to avoid accidents. Another driver may fail to stop at a red light as youā€™re making a left turn. Multiple driver may attempt to move at the same time at a four-way stop. These situations require you to take quick action, and Nissan is developing a partner to assist you in making the right decisions.

Current Technology

While intersection collision avoidance technology is still in the testing phase, Nissan already provides numerous features with its safety systems to prevent collisions. Youā€™ll find adaptive cruise control available on new Nissan models, which allows you to set a speed while the system makes adjustments to avoid getting too close to another vehicle. Blind spot detection and lane keep assist help you know when to move into another lane and when to stay in your own lane. These features work with automatic emergency braking to avoid crash situations.

Nissan continues to innovate and expand its safety systems on new models for greater peace of mind for the driver.  Along with systems to help you avoid accidents, Nissan has developed a system that is here for you when one occurs. NissanConnect Services helps you in an emergency. Automatic Collision Notification connects you to a live Response Specialist with a hands-free call. You can also push the SOS button for immediate connection with a live agent 24 hours a day.

For electric vehicles, NissanConnect allows you to check the battery status from anywhere on your smartphone. Find out how much charge you have and when it will be charged as well as how far you can drive on your current charge.
