Nissan Receives Award Recognizing Commitment to the Environment

The US Environmental Protection Agency awarded Nissan its 10th ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year ā€“ Sustained Excellence award. This is the highest honor given to companies that show their dedication to the environment through their processes.

Nissan has been the Partner of the Year award recipient for 12 years with 10 for Sustained Excellence. This award recognizes companies that improve their energy management throughout operations while working to reduce greenhouse gases from emissions.

Focus on the Environment

Nissan has been an ENERGY STAR partner since 2006. Since that time, the manufacturer has managed to reduce its use of energy in the manufacturing and assembly of vehicles. In fact, it has reduced the amount of energy enough that if that energy were converted into a usable product for the Nissan LEAF, the car could make a trip to the sun and back 44 times or 8.3 billion miles.

Nissan continues to work to save energy. In 2020, absolute energy was reduced in manufacturing plants around the county by 21 percent. The focus has been on developing more efficient technologies in the vehicles themselves as well as in the processes of developing them. For instance, LED lights are used in the different models. Employees also get involved in energy management, coming up with ideas for conservation and efficiency.

The manufacturer takes the knowledge it has developed and introduces it to other organizations. For instance, Nissan partners with schools in the communities where the brand is located, helping them with initiatives to conserve energy. Many of them become ENERGY STAR certified.

Nissan continues to seek new ways to reduce energy usage. The company has developed a goal to be carbon neutral by 2050 throughout global operations.

The Nissan LEAF Turning Heads

Nissanā€™s commitment to energy reduction is seen best in its Nissan LEAF. This electric car showcases the companyā€™s dedication to being responsible with the environment while developing vehicles that hold broad appeal to buyers. This model offers up to 111 combined mileage before it needs to be recharged. It can run for a range of 226 miles.

Efficiency isnā€™t the only benefit of the LEAF. Drivers will also appreciate the agility and instant acceleration with 100 percent torque as soon as you press down on the pedal. Lift up on the gas pedal to stop without ever having to use the brake pedal.

As an electric model, the LEAF doesnā€™t have an engine, spark plugs, or other components that are necessary with a traditional engine. Without all these parts, you have less need of service, including no oil changes. Since the electric car is low maintenance, it has an overall lower cost of ownership.
