Nissan Takes the Next Step for Electrification

Nissan Takes the Next Step for Electrification

Nissan announced the initiation of a new project called Nissan EV36Zero. This project is the first EV manufacturing ecosystem seen in the world. With a one billion pound investment, this electric vehicle hub is a partnership with Envision AESC. Envision AESC is a world leader in battery technology.

Leading the Way to Total Electrification

This exciting project centers around a vehicle manufacturing plant located in Sunderland UK. Electric vehicles, battery production, and renewable energy are the focus of this project and production at the plant. The goal for Nissan EV36Zero is comprised of three components:

  • The development and production of electric vehicles
  • Production of on-board batteries for storing energy
  • Reusing batteries for secondary purposes

The Sutherland plant is where Nissan plans to develop the new generation of all-electric vehicles with a Gigafactory from Envision AESC to produce batteries close by. Nissanā€™s project will help to develop the manufacturerā€™s reputation as a leader in electrification. It will also bring hundreds of jobs to the area, providing a major boost to the British economy. Buyers will have more options for traveling in a sustainable vehicle that they can afford.

Nissan has been a pioneer in electrification as the first mass-market producer of all-electric vehicles with the Nissan LEAF. The manufacturer also has 35 years of experience in Sunderland with the manufacturing plant. Now, with this new project, the company will add 900 new jobs to the plant with another 750 at Envision AESC.

Envision AESCā€™s plant will utilize AloT smart technology for optimal energy usage while increasing production to meet the demand for 100,000 Nissan vehicles every year. It will be the first Gigafactory of its kind in the UK, powered by renewable energy and showcasing the strength of Britain as an automotive manufacturer. The cost of EV batteries will go down to help make EV models more affordable.

Using Renewable Energy

One aspect of the project will be the use of renewable energy, both the wind and solar farms already in place and adding up to ten more solar farms. This project will also include a battery storage system for batteries to have a second life. Energy would be captured during the day and used at various times.

The city of Sunderland is in partnership with this project because it aligns with the cityā€™s own carbon neutrality goal. The plan is for the entire city to be in this state by 2040.

More than 46,000 jobs are supported at the Sunderland Nissan plant with the production of the Nissan LEAF, Juke, and Qashqai. About 70 percent of the vehicles are exported to mainland Europe with another ten percent going outside of Europe and the other 20 percent right in the UK.

Nissan continues to focus on its role as a leader in electric vehicles. You can find out more about the current EV models and other alternative fuel vehicles at Premier Nissan of San Jose. Stop in today to test drive your favorite and drive one home.
